'...land of dreams, motherf***** I'm sorry!'

Wow where do I start? Yesterday was quite the day, Chris (one of the original stars from the famous Newark Jazz Festival) picked us up in the morning and took us on an EPIC tour of the city.

We started off driving through the garden district, which is full of the most beautiful and huuuge houses we had ever seen! They have adorable porches covered in flower baskets or flags. Totes gorj.

We then moved on to see the University Area which is nothing like the places we'd seen in the french quarter and mid city, although the campus didn't look as good as Hull ;)...
Moving on, we passed through Audobon park to the river where Chris taught us about the Levy, which runs parallel with the river on the outskirts of the city. It was crazy to see how the city was below the water level - quite terrifying considering the amount of floods the city has had in the past. The Mississippi river is quite a sight - it's massive!! Strange to see the river so many poets, novelists and musicians have written about. 'Moon river' for example as Chris so wonderfully serenaded us with!

We were feeling peckish so Chris treated us to lunch at his favourite local spot, referred to as 'a bit of a dive' but woah nelly did it do good food!! I had a soft shell crab dinner *druels* whilst Amy and Chris had Catfish - that's right Amy Sparks ate fish!!!! Hope you're proud Papa Sparks! The lunch was delicious and was gobbled up with a ton of ice tea.

After lunch we made our way to a Plantation out of town, on our way we discussed Politics, Religion, Life and everything in between. Great company!

We reached Destrehan Plantation (where 'Interview with a vampire' was filmed!), the plantation was so pretty and felt quite different to the one we had visited earlier in the week. The beautiful oak trees surrounding the house had Spanish moss hanging down which I fell in love with. They made the trees look like something from a fairy tale.

After the plantation we went over to pick up Chris's friend Melanie. She is such a sweetheart and came along with us for the 2nd part of our tour of New Orleans. We went back to grab some more food and stock up on ice tea at the place we had lunch which is ironically called 'The Come back Inn'. Once we'd drunk our body weight in tea we went out to the lake which has such a different vibe to the areas we had been before. Very suburban; golf clubs and a huuuge yacht club - papa Barthez you would enjoy!

Our final leg of the tour was through the French quarter and Frenchmen street, where we saw our first taste of road rage from Chris (which came out mid-song!) hilarious!!

We had such a lovely day with Chris and Melanie and were able to see all the different areas of the city and the diversity of New Orleans. Many thanks to them both for such a lovely day!

Once back at the hostel we had to pack and get to bed before our flight at 7am this morning. We were both sad to say goodbye to New Orleans and will definitely be going back in the future!

We're currently sat at our hotel in L.A stealing their wifi to get this blog up. Unfortunately I passed out mid blog typing last night so this is up a touch behind schedule.

Anyway more about that later! Here's some photos from our lovely last day in the wonderful New Orleans!
