The Grandest of Canyons

Today was a bizarre one, it was a free day on our tour so with no real plans we obviously had a lie in! A lie in being us sleeping in til 9am - wild I know! The rest of the group went off on hikes and some were meant to go for a helicopter ride over the canyon but due to a fire in the park they couldn't go.
We decided to go for a walk around the rim so made a packed lunch then got going towards where the bus's were. The Grand Canyon has a great free bus system in getting you all around the Park, although it didn't stop us from getting lost... Standard.

The 'General Store' has free wifi so we stopped for a little fb/twitter/email check up before venturing into the depths of the earth. Whilst stalking everyone I spotted an email from Edinburgh University (where I'd applied for a masters) so immediately started having a fit and telling Amy I was going to faint... that they were emailing me to tell me I was REJECTED, that my life is over, as well as shouting a few unladylike words!
Once Sparks calmed me down I logged on and found out I got in! Wahoo!!! Edinburgh here I come! So I can finally relax knowing I am a mother f***ing genius ;)
Once I'd calmed down we set off on our walk, cameras at the ready!

We decided to go on a 2hour route -or 'rout' as they say here (one of the many words the Americans like to confuse us with, don't even get me started on the word 'data'...) - to a place called 'Hopi Point'. The walk was lovely and took us about 3 hours to 'complete', on the way we took loads of photos and sat to enjoy the beautiful weather, stunning views and our squished sandwiches.
We reached a car park and saw the word 'Hopi' on a sign so gave each other a high 5 feeling proud of our achievements! However... We soon realised we were intact only half way there at a random hotel ?! Epic fail. So we snuck into the hotel and stole their wifi for a bit before getting a bus back to camp, walking 3 miles was plenty for us lads for one day.

Once back at the camp we met up with the rest of our group and talked about our day over drinks and card games. The banter is brilliant with our group and we already have several nicknames such as 'Pervy Peter' , 'Ringworm Amy' and 'Robin in the Hood'. I'll leave it to your imagination as to where this names came from but Amy would like me to clarify that she does NOT have ringworm... yet.

After dinner we had an early night so we could be awake ready for sunrise at 4:30am, the view is amazing and after seeing how stunning the sunset was we didn't want to miss it.

Also apologies for the late posts we've been driving around California, Arizona and Nevada for the past week so have been struggling to get reliable Internet. We're in Vegas now so prepare for a upload party ASAP!
