Today (Monday) we started the day by experiencing the breakfast buffet, all our dreams rolled into one, (except there were no beans). We then went on a mission to explore Vegas in the daylight. This began by catching the free shuttle from our hotel to the strip, which dropped us off at the Fashion Show Mall right outside the entrance to... FOREVER 21!! This was an excellent start to the day. Forever 21 was huuuuge and we spent far too long in there and surprisingly not that much money, considering what we purchased.
The Fashion Show Mall was very posh, and featured a massive Topshop which was advertised everywhere all over the strip. Clearly the Americans are yet to realise that they won't fit into most of the clothes sold there and that it's ridiculously overpriced. We'll let them learn that the hard way!
From the "mall", we wandered down the strip to check out the most important hotels. First up was the Venetian. The building itself was epic, the stairs and the pillars, and we went all the way through until we found the part where it becomes an actual replica of Venice, with shops and cafes, a painted sky on the ceiling, and most importantly, the canal! We followed it round and it led to a massive square with buildings and windows and balconies on all sides. A group were doing a performance in the middle, wearing Venetian masks and singing opera. Even the gondola drivers on the canal were singing away. It was all very odd. Nice though!
As we left, we saw a sign saying 'Sephora' which I assumed was just a club or something. Kitty, however, was determined to find it in case it was a Sephora of the make up variety, a shop that we don't have in England for some reason but which is basically a haven for all things make up. Like a very very classy version of the Superdug make up section. Lo and behold it was a Sephora shop so after Kitty nearly had a heart attack from excitement we had a good explore of that before heading off again.
The heat in Vegas was insane. Casually walking about was an effort. It was pretty windy on this day, although the wind was hot and thus didn't do much to cool anything down!
The next place we came to was the Bellagio, of Oceans 11 fame. Lets just say it was slightly different by day to the blurry memory we had of it from the previous Friday night! We accidentally caught another water show as well, which was just as impressive in the day time (and just impressive being sober!) We also got shown into a VIP bar in the hotel which overlooked the water, by the guy who was working the door. Snazzy.com.
Inside the Bellagio was a huge conservatory with giant bees and butterflies hanging from the ceiling, a merry go round, fountains, balloons, you name it. There was also a ceiling in the lobby made entirely of flowers. As you do! We remembered that there was a hotel with a tiger at it, and thought this might have been the Bellagio, but after looking for quite a significant amount of time and finding no cats we asked someone who told us the tiger was actually at the Mirage.
So to the Mirage we went, only to be told that we would have to pay to see the tigers. No thank you! We then made our way back to Fashion Show Mall to have something to eat before catching the shuttle back to our hotel at about 8.15.
Being organised and all, we had already packed before we left for the strip in the afternoon and thus had a relaxing time mentally preparing for the Greyhound bus of doom.
Our taxi driver from the hotel to the Greyhound station was an absolute lad, literally every other word in his sentences was the F word and when he found out we were from Nottinghamshire he went off on a tangent about how they should remake a more ghetto version of Robin Hood; 'I'd have him jumping out the tree like "what's up bitch give me the f*****g gold!"' etc, followed by which actors would play each of the parts. Comedy genius.
To add to this, as we pulled up at the Greyhound station, he turned around and dramatically warned us about how dodgy an area we were in, not to let any of our bags out of our reach, and that it would be no better once we reached Frisco. Greaaaat. It was looking like we were in for a wonderful fifteen hours...
