To pick up where Kitty left off last night, we definitely experienced some real Miami nightlife. The two of us and Irina headed over to the Miami international backpackers hostel (where Irina had stayed for a couple of nights before she moved to our hostel) to see what the craic was that evening. When we got there we were SO glad we didn't decide to stay there in the end, it was literally like party central. There is no doubt that Kitty and I love to party but this was a whole new level, it was like being at a bizarre frat party where everyone was European. People were literally drinking beer from red cups. It all just seemed really forced and OTT so we decided we would create our own night out rather than tag along with the beer jocks.
We headed in the direction of a bar Irina had been to already and enjoyed, called Automatic Slims, and we're told by the promoter on the street that we could get in for free. When we got to the door however, the doorman tried to charge us $10 because he heard us say the word hostel and thought we were part of the whole beer jock party. We told him what we thought of that, as he stood in the doorway of his empty bar, and went on our way, heading down to Ocean Drive to check out what was occurring at the bars and hotels along the sea front. This was a very good move. We approached a hotel called the Clevelander (Chaz Clevs represent!!!), intending to head to its outdoor bar we could see, and were asked if we instead wanted to go up to the rooftop bar. FOR FREE. Up we went in the lift with some friendly people from Boston...
The roof bar was excellent, exactly what we had been looking for all night. The views were incredible, even in the dark; out over the beach one way and back over the city of Miami Beach the other. The music was great too, and people were already dancing. It was almost surreal. Also, the dj was a woman of about 40 with long blonde hair up in pigtails, certainly something I've never seen in the UK!!! The drinks were mental as well, I ordered a gin and lemonade.. Let's just say it was about 98% gin and 2% lemonade. Not kidding!! So a very successful night all in all, and a real taste of Miami nightlife. It even rained whilst we were dancing away on the roof, but no-one cared because they were too busy having fun (or most likely too drunk to notice ha!) Also, when we left, we couldn't be bothered to wait in the queue for the lift and opted for the stairs instead, not realising they were leading us straight down into the kitchen of the hotel... The staff were equally as surprised as us!
Rain was what we awoke to once more today. Not sure what is up with the Florida weather this week! All three of us were feeling fresh and escaped any kind of hangover so we went out to get some breakfast.
Today's been a bit non-eventful, due to matters such as rain, packing etc etc. Crazy Chilean lady provided some entertainment by revealing that she had "borrowed" my adapter which I thought I had lost and we had all been looking for for hours! Never trust a Chilean!
Irina kindly showed us where we needed to get the bus and was sad to see us go. She's been lovely and we are now friends on Facebook (obviously) so we may one day see her again in either England or Germany!
It was a complete mission to get to the greyhound station but once we got there it was a beautiful experience! Greyhound buses have got techno; this one had leather seats, wifi, the lot! The buses are still filled with odd people though, thank god that hasn't changed!!!!
So we are now in Orlando! Home of all things Disney and American. Ha. Tomorrow is the day we've been waiting for.... The day we visit the Holy Land Experience. Jesus I hope you're ready buddy!!!
