Today we started our tour! Setting off from LA at 8am we explored the city from Beverly hills, rodeo drive, sunset and Hollywood boulevard up to the famous Hollywood sign before heading to Venice beach.
I searched high and low for the Harry potter stars handprints but failed to find it :( whereas Amy's life was made by finding MJ's star and Humphrey Bogart's hand prints. It was a cloudy start to the day but by the time we reached the beach the sun showed up and L.A looked beautiful. When it's overcast the city has an entirely different feel and looks far from glamourous!
Venice beach is pretty crazy, full of hipster kids, cray cray types begging for money, attention seeking naked muscly men and lots of good looking people with even better looking dogs.
The atmosphere is hard to describe but it's so cool though and it's definitely our favourite part of L.A. We only had a short day to see the sights before heading of to San Diego, but L.A is such a spread out city with no real centre and everywhere is as you imagine it to be from the films... but with more homeless people haha!
It's a cool place but not top of our list of places to visit so we happily jumped in the van to San Diego in the late afternoon. We arrived at our campsite in the evening and it's pretty jazzy - hot tub, pool and showers!! We had a beautiful dinner made by Greg the CEO consisting of wraps and the tastiest salad with a raspberry dressing, almonds and a fruit salad for dessert - healthy!
After dinner some of us stayed up and talked about where we live and the differences we have between our countries - U.K, Australia, Sweden, America and Germany! Our group is lovely and we can't wait to continue our trip with them all.
Also as we forgot to bring a sleeping bag with us we ended up getting one from Walmart ... A child one. Amy only just fits into it and mine comes up to my chest and the zip wont do up - the sleeping bag was definitely designed for a prepubescent body. It's also got a bright pink camouflage pattern just to add to the fun. Let's hope it doesn't get too cold when we get to the Grand Canyon...
Hey Amos - you got a credit on the gogglebox last night! Tale of Two Cities whent out last night on BBC4. I've uploaded a (crappy) pic to your FB - check it out! (Shazzza)
ReplyDeleteThe Museums in Los Angeles are second to none. Amazingly high quality and covering nearly any avenue of human creative endeavor. Some great places to eat if you have the moolah. Interesting sociologically to see a herd of homo sapiens out of control in terms of valuing surface appearances and consumption. Otherwise (or because of the human equation and cars) it sucks.
