Today we spent the morning packing up our things that were taking up a bunker sized locker under our beds before checking out. Once sorted we decided to head out for breakfast - standard.
We find the place we were planning to go so went into a place called CJ's which was packed with locals, the food was delish - I had a spiced minced beef, spinach, onion and cheese scramble, soo good whilst sparks had bacon n cheese. Both came with hash browns which are always a winner! The service was amazing which seams to be the case for anywhere we've been in Seattle!
After breakfast we wandered down to near Pike Place and lazed in the sun looking out onto the water, we had to leave for the airport early in the afternoon so decided to enjoy the lovely weather rather than cram in more sightseeing, also whilst in the 'Park' of sorts, we noticed some kids playing the game 'ninja' a hilarious game introduced to us by Harry, the game seams to of crossed the Atlantic! Hilarious, not as vicious as Harry's version but it had just as good noises and ninja moves!
Like everywhere weve been in the states we noticed alot of homeless people, one man was approaching families and couples asking for change, he looked like he had been beaten and was bruised and cut wearing filthy cut clothes and looked very very sad. It's so horrible to see and especially to see how people acted like this was a normal sight. It's somethingI hope we don't become numb too as I don't think it's right at all and it's clear from talking to people here that it's an issue they are well aware of.
After a last mooch around we bid Seattle farewell and made our way to the airport for our flight to Chicago!
We arrived just after midnight and made our way sleepily to the hostel via the underground - we obviously looked confused as a couple kindly came offer to see if we needed help - buying tickets for the trains here is so awkward as the prices are no where to be seen! They saw us counting out our change so kindly handed us a $5 bill and sent us in the right direction. Friendly city!
We arrived at the hostel and stumbled to the nearest free beds in the dark, here we met Lauren briefly who had just got back from pitchfork festival and seemed to have no idea which bed to use too!
Once we'd dug out our pjs we slept for what seemed like forever to catch up on some much needed rest. The next day we saw Lauren again and got chatting, she's from Australia and is traveling around the USA and Canada as well - so we got along instantly!
By the time we had got ourselves together it was time for foooood! So we wondered around Wicker Park looking for somewhere to eat, within minutes the heat was ridiculous and we decided to go anywhere with shade - so hot!!! We munched our lunch before going back to the hostel to escape the heat - words can't describe how hot it is here!
Once back we met Clare from Birmingham who studies at Newcastle university! As Lauren left for pitchfork we decided to head out and get some food to make a chilli/taco party. The hostel has Netflix so we were all very excited to watch 'Beethoven' amazing!
Whilst we were sitting watching the film, an older woman walked in with a hot guy who it looked like was her son. They both said hello before walking into our dorm, me and Amy looked at each other and thought it was the return of the cray old woman!! This one isn't from Chile but is just as crazy! We decided to nickname her 'Kray' and oh boy did she do that name proud in the days to come...
After food we went up to the hostels roof deck which had an amazing view of the city - the photos really don't do it justice. Chicago looks amazing at night and we were tres excited to go see it by day!
So as you can see the first day in Chi-town was a bit of a fail but we needed sleep, food and to escape the sun. Tomorrow we head to millennium park!
