4th of July, artichoke chunder... 'Baby you're a firework!!'

Today we went on a road trip with Angelo and Jeff in search of Pescadero 's famous fried artichokes that Angelo had discovered in a recent cycling trip. It would take us an hour or two to reach Pescadero, a trip that Jeff wasnt feeling his best for after eating our feast of mash, beans and cheese the night before. Poor guy... So Angelou was on strict instructions to drive smoothly for all our sakes...

Once there we found the cafe selling the famous artichokes and went up to the till eagerly waiting to order the artichoke party we'd been dreaming about, however this was short lived as we were greated by an aggro man who informed us that they had no fried artichokes - the nerve!!
He then realised we were English and asked if we were 'round heads or cavaliers' this completely confused me and I replied 'skin heads?!?' Sparks jumped in to correct me but I still had no idea what they were talking about. Amy is going to give me a much needed history lesson ASAP!

Once we'd ordered with the creepy man we went outside to enjoy the lovely weather and ate a feast of pizza and artichoke salad. The town was really sweet and full of little fresh food shops and deli's, definitely worth the visit!

By now it was around 2pm and we decided to head back, the drive home was down a mountain full of beautiful red wood trees, a route very popular with cyclists! Angelo drove us through the hairpin bends as smoothly as possible but within 10 minutes we were all turning green and opening windows to get some air!! We pulled over to grab some coffee once we had made our way down most of the bends, it was then that Jeff realised he'd left his wallet and jacket in Pescadero!! So we had to go back - chunderific doesn't even cover it!!! Even Angelo was opening his window!
Once back at the cafe we grabbed his jacket and wallet - which had thankfully been untouched - and headed home for the second time... After teaching Jeff about the 'gap yah' video and it's quotes we spent the rest if the journey shouting 'GAP YAH', 'BANTAH!' and 'CHUNDER EVERYWARRRR!' great fun and highly appropriate, especially the use of 'vomcano'!
We arrived home just after 5 and all disappeared to rest off the travel sickness.

We had planned to go down to the pier to watch the fireworks at half 9, so after a nap and staring into space for afew hours we decided to get dressed and head out. Being a big makeup/fancy dress fan I covered my face in makeup including blue sparkly eyeliner and red lipstick #classy. Angelo was kind enough to drop us off near where all the action was, we walked down to Ghirardelli to find a spot to watch the firework display. The place was packed full of families, teenagers and lots of red cups!! We found a spot near the beach with a perfect view out to the water.

The firework show was spectacular! Nothing like anything I'd ever seen before! The crowds were ahhh-ing and Oooh-ing at the display which featured patriotic colours and was very dramatic. They had a few smiley face fireworks and at one point two red love hearts, to which every girl/woman in the crowed let out a big'Awww' before bursting out laughing at the fact we had just awww-ed at a firework!!
The finale was epic! And everyone let out a huge cheer when it finished. Once it was over the crowds flooded onto the streets to make the way back home, the roads were full of police and security to help manage the crowds. The buses were no where to be seen yet there were still people patiently waiting at bus stops?! We decided to walk our way home even though this meant tackling several brutal hills on Filmore - steep hill has nothing on this!! Our walk home was made more amusing by the fact we were following a Chinese man who was singing the entire way to Filmore - no idea what he was singing but it sounded like something from a musical. Regardless Sparks was in stitches whilst I was busy trying to wipe off my hooker-esque red lipstick!

Once home we let our calves rest and ate leftover mash and beans - you can take the girl out of Newark but you can't take Newark out of the girl :)
