It's not always sunny in Philadelphia

After a tiring night of watching the Olympic ceremony we had a leisurely wakeup and spent the morning packing up our things. Today we were headed to Washington DC ! We checked out a bit late, as usual, but the staff here were too lovely to mind and let us leave our bags in the hostel whilst we made the use of our free afternoon before catching our bus to D.C. in the evening.

The Liberty Bell is just a stones throw away from the hostel so we decided to check it out, like many things here it's free entry but you have to queue to get in. The queue was outside so we were rather warm (understatement).

Whilst in the queue we could hear someone preaching to the crowd. Amy saw he had a skull cap on and was instantly excited, we think he was a Jew for Jesus because his t-shirt said 'Jesus loves you' inside a star of David. Regardless - he be cray, he was shouting out things like 'Jesus wasn't a good Christian, he wasn't even a good evangelist - he was a JEW!' #awkward

We were stood next to a family whose dad was getting very wound up by all of this - he was defs a strong Christian as he looked very angry at what this dude was saying, Amy filmed most of this - video will be compiled in due course.

Once inside we wandered through reading about the story of the Liberty Bell and the impact it's had on America. The Bell is pretty impressive, its amazing to think about the history behind it especially as what it represents still so relevant now.

After our last mega bus experience we decided it would be wise to stock up on food for the journey - so we made our way to Trader Joe's to stock up! We also decided it was time to grab a famous cheesesteak! Using my gluten free bread (Obz) we got a plate loaded with steak and cheese - if was tasty but a bit odd, tasted a bit like dinner meat which was disturbing.

With our backpacks on and a huge bag of food for the journey, we made our way to the Mega bus 'station'. Well... it's more like a street corner than a station.

As we arrived the heavens opened and the rain went cray cray - we were both getting drenched! There was some shelter under the railway tracks but bit enough. Bad times. After what felt like a lifetime our bus finally arrived and as if by joke, the rain stopped. Charming. We piled on to the bus and spent the next 3 hours trying to dry off.

Philly has been lovely and were both so glad we added it on to our trip! It's such a beautiful city with a really interesting history, definitely one of my favourite places we've been so far.

We arrived at DC and made our way to the hostel which is located in a really cool area of Washington just down the road from all the sights - and right near a forever 21 wahoo!!

We were both thrilled to find our ready made beds! This was our first hostel in a mixed dorm so were happy to see less stuff on the floor. Us girls are very messy travellers!

A little 'hello' came from a bunk where a sweet Chinese girl was staying, no lads yet but this was all going to change.

As we returned from the bathroom we smelt something rather fowl in our room and noticed a guy had just arrived and was in bed. The smell was horrific, like death reheated mixed with smelly cheese, wet shoes and... Chunder. Literally the worst smell ever! Me and Amy started smelling ourselves and our clothes/shoes hoping we hasn't 'let our selves go' but alas it was not coming from us.

We went to bed holding our noses hoping the source of the stench would be discovered soon...
